Client Snapshot

A premium landscaper competing on a crowded map

Design Scapes Inc. designs, installs and maintains landscaping and irrigation for homes, HOAs and commercial sites across San Antonio, working out of 2822 N Loop 1604 W. Five stars across 53 Google reviews. Excellent work, excellent reputation, and a search presence that was being out published by national directories and franchise competitors. Landscaper SEO was the gap.

Where they started

  • Direct traffic carried the site. Organic search was only 34 percent of sessions, which usually means a business is running on referrals and paid attention rather than being discovered.
  • High value commercial terms such as landscape lighting and sod installation were generating impressions but sitting outside the click zone.
  • No informational content, so every seasonal question a San Antonio homeowner types went to a competitor or a news site.
  • Two very different buyers, project clients and maintenance clients, were being asked to read the same page.

The opportunity

  • Landscaping is one of the few trades where photography is both the sales asset and a ranking signal, and Design Scapes had the portfolio.
  • San Antonio has a genuine seasonal search calendar: watering days, freeze protection, sod timing, drought stages. That calendar is a landscaper SEO content plan waiting to be written.
  • Nobody in the local market was publishing straight answers about what landscaping actually costs.
  • A 5.0 rated profile with a real street address can win the map pack against national lead brokers.
The Platform

A website built to carry the portfolio

The FOG Digital Marketing team designed and launched a new site that lets the work do the selling and gives the landscaper SEO program somewhere to rank.

The Design Scapes homepage. Full bleed project photography, the phone number in the hero, and the 5.0 rating surfaced immediately.

Split the two buyers

Residential and commercial were separated into their own navigation branches, each with its own service pages, its own photography and its own proof. A homeowner planning a backyard and an HOA manager sourcing a maintenance contract are not the same visitor and should never land on the same page.

Make the work findable

Project photography was compressed, named and given descriptive alt text so it could rank in image search as well as load fast. Financing options, service pages and a booking path were built in so that the visitor never has to hunt for the next step.

Strategy & Execution

The landscaper SEO program

Four workstreams, run continuously rather than as a one off project. This is the landscaper SEO framework we run for every landscaping company we take on.

01

Own the San Antonio seasonal calendar

Watering days, freeze temperatures for sprinkler systems, sod timing and drought stage changes are searched hard and locally every single year. SAWS publishes the official drought restrictions and watering rules, and the content we built answers what those rules mean for a real lawn. That is the cheapest durable traffic available in landscaper SEO.

02

Publish the prices nobody else will

"How much does landscaping cost for a small yard" now ranks at position 3.3 with a 10.7 percent click through rate. Cost content scares most contractors. It is precisely why it works: it filters out tyre kickers and pre sells the ones who call.

03

Chase the high ticket service terms

Landscape lighting and sod installation are two of the most profitable jobs in the book. Both were given dedicated, genuinely detailed pages rather than a bullet on a services list, and both are now collecting thousands of monthly impressions in the San Antonio market.

04

Keep the Business Profile in step

Categories, services, service area, photos and online booking were aligned with the website so the map pack listing and the organic listing reinforce each other instead of telling Google two different stories.

The Proof

What the landscaper SEO data shows

Six months, 6 March to 5 September 2026, compared against the six months immediately before. All figures pulled from Google Search Console, GA4 and Google Business Profile on 5 September 2026.

Impressions growing faster than clicks is what a healthy expansion looks like at this stage. The site is being shown for far more searches than before, average position improved slightly while that much new surface area was added, and the click volume nearly doubled. Across the last sixteen months the domain has now collected 1,140 clicks from 420,000 impressions.

when can i water my lawn212521.5

Two things are worth pointing out. First, the seasonal informational queries are real traffic, not filler: "when can i water my lawn" delivered five clicks on its own, and "san antonio watering days" holds position 6.8. Second, landscape lighting at 4,062 impressions and sod installation at 1,840 are the two biggest remaining opportunities on the board. Those are commercial jobs sitting at position 19.9 and 20.2, one page away from being clicked.

GA4 traffic acquisition comparison for Design Scapes showing organic search sessions up 31.8 percent
GA4 traffic acquisition, last six months against the previous six. Organic Search is now the largest channel on the site.

Average engagement time, all traffic42s32s+32.9%

This is the number the whole landscaper SEO program was built to move. Organic search went from a third of the site's traffic to more than half, organic engaged sessions rose 36 percent and organic key events, the tracked contact and quote actions, rose 35 percent. Total sessions across all channels are down 12 percent over the same window because paid and social activity reduced, which makes the organic result more meaningful rather than less: the business is now being found rather than bought.

And a channel that did not exist six months ago

GA4 recorded 23 sessions from the AI Assistant channel, meaning visitors arriving from ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and similar tools. Six months earlier that number was zero. Those 23 sessions produced six key events, a 17.39 percent key event rate, which is the highest of any channel on the site by a wide margin, at an average engagement time of one minute twelve seconds. It is a small number today. It is the clearest evidence we have that the same structured, question answering content that drives landscaper SEO is also what gets a business quoted by AI search engines.

435 Business Profile interactions over six months, on a listing carrying a 5.0 rating from 53 reviews, with online booking enabled. Landscaper SEO and map pack visibility are not separate projects. Between the profile and the website, Design Scapes now owns both halves of a local search result.

What Comes Next

Where the next gains are

The program is working. Here is what it is aimed at now.

Move landscape lighting and sod onto page two, then one

Together those two terms produced 5,902 impressions at positions 19.9 and 20.2. They are the highest ticket work Design Scapes does and the largest untapped block of qualified demand in the account. Deeper pages, project galleries with real San Antonio addresses, and internal links from the seasonal content are the route.

Fix the click through rate on high volume terms

"Landscaping san antonio" produced 2,942 impressions at position 51.7 and "landscaping services" 748 at 9.6 with only two clicks. The second one is not a ranking problem, it is a title and meta description problem. In landscaper SEO, click through rate work on existing rankings is usually faster and cheaper than chasing new ones.

FAQs

Landscaper SEO questions we get asked

How long does landscaper SEO take to show results?

Design Scapes moved from 371 to 707 organic clicks over a six month window, and the impression growth that produced it started building well before the clicks did. That is the normal shape. Expect impressions to move within two to three months, clicks within four to six, and the high value commercial terms such as landscape lighting to take nine to eighteen months in a market the size of San Antonio.

Why write about watering days and freeze temperatures instead of services?

Because that is what people search in volume, and because it is what a landscaper genuinely knows. "San antonio watering days" and "sprinkler system freeze temperature" together produced 616 impressions in six months from a company with no news budget. Seasonal answer content builds topical authority, earns links, and puts the brand in front of the exact homeowner who will later need an irrigation repair. Answer first content is the backbone of modern landscaper SEO.

Should a landscaping company publish prices?

Yes, as ranges with the variables explained. Design Scapes ranks at position 3.3 for "how much does landscaping cost for a small yard" with a 10.7 percent click through rate, well above the site average. Publishing ranges does not lose you jobs. It loses you the estimate appointments you were never going to win, and it wins you the ones where the buyer has already accepted the number.

What does landscaper SEO cost in San Antonio?

For a local landscaping and irrigation company, ongoing SEO and Google Business Profile management typically runs between 1,200 and 3,000 dollars a month, with a website rebuild between 4,000 and 9,000 dollars depending on the number of service pages and the size of the portfolio. The right question is not the monthly figure, it is how many jobs a month it needs to produce to pay for itself.

Traffic went down overall. Is that a problem?

No, and it is worth being straight about it. Total sessions fell 12 percent because paid and social activity reduced during the period. Over the same window organic sessions rose 31.8 percent, organic engaged sessions rose 36.2 percent and organic key events rose 35.5 percent. The site now gets more than half of its traffic from search rather than a third. Swapping rented traffic for owned traffic is the point.

What is the AI Assistant channel in GA4?

It is GA4's grouping for visits referred by AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. Design Scapes recorded 23 such sessions in six months against zero in the previous six, and those sessions converted at 17.39 percent, higher than any other channel. Being cited by an AI assistant requires the same things good landscaper SEO already requires: clear answers, real expertise, structured data and consistent business information.

Do HOA and commercial landscaping clients search differently to homeowners?

Completely differently. Homeowners search by problem and by season. Property and HOA managers search by contract type, by scope and by service area, often from a desktop during business hours. That is why the site was split into residential and commercial branches with separate pages. Trying to serve both audiences from one services page is the fastest way to convert neither.
